How to deal with Periods?
This is a monthly process and will continue till the age of 50 on an average.
So instead of being afraid of it, you should learn to happily live and deal with it.
To deal with periods you only need to take care of two things i.e. Personal Hygiene and Cramps.
Personal Hygiene
Since blood oozes out from you uterus through vagina, therefore you have to take care to maintain hygiene of your private area. If proper hygiene is not maintained, then it may lead to infections.
How to maintain personal Hygiene
1) Clean your vagina using a mild cleanser. Sometimes, you need to frequently clean your vagina, for that purpose clean using only water. Using cleansers time and again may interrupt with the Ph balance of your vagina or may also lead to drying of the area.
2) If you are a beginner of periods, then I prefer to use only sanitary pads because using tampons and reusable menstrual cap requires experience and special technique so don’t use it unless you have someone who can teach you about it.
3) Change your sanitary pads 3 times a day in the first 3 days. Thereafter, you can switch to changing pads only 2 times a day for next 3 days depending on the amount and days you are bleeding. Further, I would suggest you to use Panty liners on the last few days to avoid spotting of panties.
Cramps
You will eventually feel cramps in the lower abdomen of the stomach and in your thighs. Some might feel a lot of pain while some might feel no pain. This completely depends upon your body. If I share my personal experience, I got my first period when I was 15 years old with very little bleeding and no pain at all. But with time bleeding increased and same was the case with pain. But I always had the pain that I can bear.
In order to tackle with cramps you need to keep yourself warm, specially the tummy area. Yes you heard it right. Keeping yourself warm really helps. If at home try to keep a hot water bottle on your stomach and drink something warm like hot coffee, hot chocolate, hot soup, tea, etc.
SECRET INGREDIENT TO COPE UP WITH CRAMPS
But let me tell you a secret ingredient given by my mom that always helped
Drinking hot milk with a pinch of turmeric added to it and some almonds. Girls let me tell you it really works wonders on me. TRY IT and then do let me know in the comment section whether it worked out for you or not. You can buy turmeric powder from any Indian Grocery store or you can purchase it from Amazon.com. Turmeric is an Indian herb with lots of health benefits. It is mustard yellow in color and bitter in taste so you have to add only a pinch of it. Indians use it in all their cooking items to give yellow tinge to the food and also to give antiseptic properties. Drink turmeric milk only once a day and only on days when u experience period crams.

If nothing works, then the last option is to go to a doctor and get a painkiller for yourself as prescribed by a doctor. Normal painkillers doesn’t work on these cramps. So take specialized ones.
